What is the Living Advent Calendar?
We believe the idea of a Living Advent Calendar originated some years ago in Stockholm.
The idea is starting to take off here in the UK and we felt it was about time Stratford joined in the fun.
Each day from 1st to 23rd December, at various locations around the town centre, there will be a pop-up performance at 4pm. Each day will be different, and repeated at 6pm to make sure as many people as possible can catch the show.
Performances will vary and may include anything from a choir to small musical groups, actors giving their best, maybe a fire breather, our aim is for a varied programme suitable for all ages.
On Christmas Eve the fun takes place just once, at 4pm.
Schools and groups from across Stratford are busy creating new figures for a very special Nativity Scene that will come together in Bell Court. They’re making all the familiar characters, but we’d like lots more.
We’re inviting young people (up to the age of 11) to create and bring along their own character for the scene. It can be any character, real or not. Your favourite person from history, the coolest superhero, anyone!
Characters should be no more that 12cm tall, and made as much as possible from recyclable materials. Otherwise, just use your imagination and bring your figure along from 4pm on Christmas Eve.
